To reach Wetaskiwin from Edmonton, you will start by heading south on Highway 2 (also known as the Queen Elizabeth II Highway). As you leave Edmonton, you will pass through the scenic countryside of Alberta, witnessing vast fields and rolling hills along the way. Approximately 70 kilometers from Edmonton, you will take the exit for Highway 13, leading you directly towards Wetaskiwin. From here, continue your journey east on Highway 13, and within 40 kilometers, you will find yourself entering the charming city of Wetaskiwin. The route is well-marked and offers a smooth driving experience, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful Alberta landscapes throughout the trip.

In the morning, I enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the hotel's onsite restaurant, fuelling me for another day of adventure. With its exceptional service, convenient amenities, and close proximity to local attractions, the Best Western Hotel in Wetaskiwin proved to be an excellent choice for my stay.

The Reynolds-Alberta Museum, located just on the outskirts of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, is a captivating place for people who love old machinery and history. This amazing museum takes visitors on a journey through the past of transportation and industry. They have a great collection of old vehicles, aviation items, and industrial machines. You can see everything from classic cars and motorcycles to airplanes and farming equipment. In addition to the exhibits, the museum also offers hands-on workshops, educational programs, and special events throughout the year. It's a popular destination for history enthusiasts and families looking for a fun and educational outing. The Reynolds-Alberta Museum is committed to preserving and celebrating Alberta's industrial history, and it's definitely a place you should visit if you're interested in the past.
Their current exhibition is called ‘Driving Thru the ‘70s’ which features muscle cars, boogie vans, and tons of information about the oil crisis all the way to pop culture. This exhibition is on until Oct 14th, so don’t miss out! This place, and the items in it, are such a pinnacle point in Albertas agriculture and history.

Catch an event at the Edmonton International Raceway
The Edmonton International Raceway (EIR) is just outside Wetaskiwin and has recently been hosting exciting events that have delighted racing fans from all over the area. From intense stock car races to thrilling hit-to-pass competitions, EIR has become a hub for thrilling action. Spectators have been treated to the loud noise of engines as fast vehicles zoom past them on the track, creating a wave of excitement. EIR has also held special events like race-a-wreck and show & shines, which have brought out the childlike joy in everyone attending. With its excellent facilities and dedicated team, the Edmonton International Raceway has become a top choice for motorsport fans looking for an exhilarating and memorable experience.
During my time in Wetaskiwin, there was a drifting event going on which was beyond cool to witness. If this is something you haven’t attended yet before, I highly suggest adding to your list of things to do!

Dine in at the Huckleberry Cafe
Did someone say Dill Pickle Soup? Because that is what the Huckleberry Cafe is known for, so don’t forget to get a bowl (or a whole litre to-go) while you stop.
The Huckleberry Cafe is a hidden gem that delights locals and visitors alike. As you step through its doors, you are immediately enveloped by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The rustic wooden furniture paired with cozy booths creates the perfect setting for a relaxing meal or a cup of aromatic coffee. The menu at Huckleberry Cafe is a tantalizing fusion of traditional Canadian cuisine and international flavours, showcasing the best of both worlds. From hearty salad options to mouthwatering bison sausage platters, every dish is crafted with care and passion. With friendly staff and top-notch service, a visit to Huckleberry Cafe is an experience that leaves you craving more.
We tried the Dill Pickle Soup and shared a large Prime Rib, which I highly recommend! If you’re looking for to-go food, or take-out options, you can check out their newest addition and neighbour, Sawyers Smokehouse and Trading post where you can find many of the items served at Huckleberry’s in freezer/take-out form. I may or may not of purchased a Dill Pickle lip chap!
Watch the sun rise over the Pipestone Creek Conservation Area
The Pipestone Creek Conservation Area is a stunning natural treasure that attracts nature lovers from all over. It spans across a large area of beautiful land and offers a variety of plants and animals for visitors to explore. The well-maintained trails allow hikers and bird watchers to fully enjoy Alberta's wilderness. The creek that runs through the area adds to its peaceful and charming atmosphere. Learn to drive a race car at EIR
When I learned to drive a race car at Edmonton International Raceway, it was an incredibly exciting experience that made me crave speed. As soon as I got on the track, I could smell the burning rubber in the air, which made me even more eager to get started. The sound of the engines got louder, and it sent shivers of excitement down my spine. The instructors who were experts taught me all the ins and outs of handling a high-performance car and the tricks of the track. After being suited up with a race suit and helmet, I was strapped in for 5 warm-up runs, I then went around the track for another 10 laps at the speed the instructor felt I was comfortable with - I felt it was pretty fast but my videos beg to differ. As I accelerated, the engine's roar was so loud that I could feel it in my chest. I navigated every turn with precision and skill, gaining more confidence with each lap. I became addicted to the thrill of the speed, and Edmonton International Raceway became like a playground to me. It was there that I learned how to control the car and become a master of speed, making my way towards victory - check out my ‘victory’ photo!

I'm saying goodbye to the beautiful city of Wetaskiwin, Alberta. I'm thinking about all the amazing things I did and the great memories I made here. The Reynolds-Alberta Museum was interesting, and Alberta's landscapes were breathtaking. The community was friendly, and there were lots of outdoor activities to do. Exploring Main Street and the surrounding countryside was always fun. Wetaskiwin has a unique spirit and being connected to nature and the people here made me feel like I belonged. I'll always have a special place in my heart for Wetaskiwin, and I'm thankful for the memories.
