Getting to Kastoria
I flew into the Thessaloniki Airport from Edmonton with a layover in Frankfurt (which was chaotic to say the least). After spending a night in Thessaloniki, it was time to make my way to Kastoria via bus. I went over to the KTEL Macedonia bus station, and my ticket was €17 for my 2.5hour bus ride to Kastoria.
There are other options such as renting your own car or the more expensive route of getting a taxi, but I suggest taking the bus. It was a budget-friendly option, and a good time to take a nap before you start all your adventures!

The Archeological Museum of Argos Orestiko is a great place for history lovers. It has a lot of ancient artifacts that show the rich cultural heritage of the region, just like the Byzantine Museum. When you walk in, you'll be amazed by the collection of old things like pottery, statues, jewelry, and burial offerings. The exhibits in the museum tell the story of the ancient city and give insight into its politics, society, and religious practices.

The Emmanuel Brothers Mansion Costume Museum
The Emmanuel Brothers Mansion Costume Museum in Kastoria is a fabulous place for people who love fashion and history. It's located in a beautiful old mansion from the 19th century. Inside, you'll find a large collection of fancy costumes and accessories spanning many years. When you enter, you'll feel like you're entering a fancy and extravagant world. Each display shows carefully made clothes with lots of detail like embroidery, lace, and beadwork. The museum doesn't only show how fashion has changed over time but also teaches you about the local culture in Kastoria. Open-Air Museum at the Dispilio Prehistoric Lake Settlement
The Dispilio Prehistoric Lake Settlement in Kastoria is a fascinating place that gives us a glimpse into ancient human history. It dates back to the Neolithic period, which was over 7,000 years ago. The site is well-preserved and provides valuable information about how our ancestors lived. It is located on the shores of Lake Orestiada and has many artifacts and structures that show how people used to live and make pottery. Excavations have uncovered beautifully designed clay vessels, stone tools, and even wooden structures that have been preserved in the lake sediment. The Dispilio settlement is a reminder of forgotten communities and the impressive skills of our prehistoric ancestors. Visiting this archaeological site allows us to travel back in time and learn about our ancient past.

Kastoria, Greece is famous for being incredibly beautiful. One notable feature of this city is its churches, which are considered architectural treasures. These churches are influenced by both Byzantine and Ottoman styles. They are located among old mansions, and their stunning frescoes, domes, and ornate decorations demand attention. The entrance to the Dragon Cave, which was only found in the 1940s, is surrounded by beautiful scenery. It is a fascinating underground cavern that has captured the imagination of locals for many years. According to local legends, the cave is home to ferocious dragons who guard hidden treasures. Stepping into the Dragon Cave is a breathtaking experience, as the atmosphere feels otherworldly. The cave is filled with stalactites and stalagmites, creating a maze-like environment with eerie shadows dancing on the ancient walls. The glow from torches adds an element of mystery, as hieroglyphics etched into the rock tell stories from long ago. The Kastoria Aquarium
The Kastoria Aquarium is a great place for people who love aquatic life and want to see what's in the local lakes and rivers. It's located by Lake Orestiada in Greece and is the largest freshwater aquarium in the Balkans. When you walk around the aquarium, you'll see lots of different species of fish and organisms found in the waters of Greece, including Carp, Perch, Eels, Northern American Box Turtle, Sturgeon and more.

Lake Orestiada Drive
Lake Orestiada is a beautiful natural treasure that mesmerizes all who visit. It is surrounded by the majestic Pindus mountain range and its freshwater is a striking turquoise colour, reflecting the lush forests and snow-covered peaks. The lake has a peaceful and calm atmosphere that invites visitors to relax and enjoy its tranquil beauty. Nature lovers can explore the rich variety of plant and animal life that thrives in the lake, including many underwater plants and creatures. Whether you enjoy fishing or boating or simply want to admire the stunning scenery, a visit to Lake Orestiada offers a rejuvenating experience that allows you to connect with the incredible power of nature.
You can drive around from the south side of Kastoria to the north side taking in the beautiful view along the way. As you reach the end of the peninsula, you will reach a Byzantine moment and cafe. Take a few moments here to appreciate the beauty of Kastoria and Lake Orestiada before continuing your drive back into town.
Old Town Doltso
Old Town Doltso in Kastoria is a charming place that brings you back in time. It has a lot of old buildings that are really interesting to look at. The streets are made of stones and there are big houses with many beautiful colours and fancy designs. When I walked through the small paths, I was amazed by the old churches that are still in good shape. Every corner had something special, like restaurants with delicious local food or cute shops with handmade crafts and fabrics. Exploring Old Town Doltso in Kastoria felt like going back in time and experiencing the beautiful and rich history of the place. Make sure you stop in at Idees Art Cafe & Shop to see their house-made jams, oils, sauces, pasta and so much more!
